Our Story
Evan James Boettler, a 16-year-old sophomore at Aurora High School in Missouri, tragically took his own life on January 3rd, 2024. An investigation revealed that Evan was the victim of an unsuccessful extortion attempt.
Evan was a remarkable son, brother, grandson, cousin, and nephew. He possessed qualities that promised a future of success. Intelligent and eager to learn, Evan was known for his kindness towards classmates and peers, often reaching out to befriend those who were mistreated. His determination and hard work typically led to success in his endeavors. An avid outdoorsman, Evan spent much of his free time fishing or exploring the woods, always returning with exciting stories of his adventures or tales of “the big one.” His dream was to become a professional fisherman, which seemed within reach due to his dedication and passion.
At Aurora High School, Evan was a leader. He played on the Varsity Soccer team and participated in several clubs and programs, including the Youth Empowerment Project, Student Council, and FFA. He was also nominated for Boy’s State during the 2023-24 school year. Evan was an advocate for others, working to amplify their voices.
Details about Evan’s case remain limited as the investigation continues, involving local, regional, state, federal, and international authorities.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, it became evident that such crimes against children are on the rise, affecting families, schools, and communities worldwide. Through connections and collaboration with other families affected by this crime, the need to share Evan’s Voice became a priority.
The goal of this site is to educate, advocate, and promote changes to protect other children and families from experiencing such loss. It aims to uphold and share the values that Evan exemplified.
